AP Biology (Period 1)
Course Description
My AP Biology class meets 5 days a week for 63 minutes each day. This course is designed to help students pass the AP Biology exam in May and to give students the opportunity to experience a college-level biology class in high school.
The topics covered in my AP Biology class conform to the topics in the AP Biology Course Description and include biochemistry, cell structure and function, metabolism, genetics, molecular basis of inheritance, DNA technology, evolution, microbiology, classification, plants, animals, animal physiology, and ecology. The above topics are integrated throughout the course using the eight major themes from the AP Biology Curriculum Requirements.
Teaching Strategies:
I believe that students need to have access to all possible learning strategies to help master the biology content. Therefore, a combination of lectures, readings, writing, hands-on activities, modeling, short video clips, worksheets, problems, and laboratories are employed. Students take notes using the Cornell style of note-taking to encourage re-reading and synthesis of information.
