Course Description:
AP biology is a college course taught in high school. Students will take the AP exam in May to determine their eligibility for advanced placement and/or credit in college biology courses. This course covers a vast amount of material and thus makes heavy demands on even the best-organized student. It is equivalent to a 6 unit (2 semester) college biology class. The course is organized into three major instructional areas:
Molecules and Cells (25%)
Heredity and Evolution (25%)
Organisms and Populations (50%)
The material and laboratory exercises covered in this course reflect a course outline which has been suggested by the College Board. There are 14 recommended laboratory exercises, each of which are divided into several sections. At the end of this course, students will be prepared to take the AP exam in biology. Students will also be better prepared to succeed in college biology courses. For more information on the AP biology course, go to http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_bio.html?biology
